Ontario's Fire Code requires a monthly visual inspection of every portable extinguisher, an annual service by a certified company, and a pressure test every 5 to 12 years depending on the type. You have to keep a record for each unit and show it when a fire inspector asks. Fines run up to $50,000 for a person and $500,000 for a corporation.
